Jason Schwartman is the ex drummer of Phantom Planet. You remember Phantom Planet. They sang the unforgettable “California, Here We Come,” a song so catchy that it’s strange if it doesn’t get stuck in your head. He is also a well established actor and now he sings solo under the name “Coconut Records.” Both albums, Davy and Nighttiming, are flawless. Completely flawless. And he’s got an amazing sense of humor in his music. I love the song “Drummer,” which is sort of an autobiography of him. He even says in the song, “I was a drummer in a band that you’ve heard of,” referring to his membership in Phantom Planet. His brother is Robert Schwartman, actor and lead singer of the band Rooney. The two of them sound completely different from one another but you can tell that they really appreciate each other’s music and talents.
Anyway, on Davy, Jason has a song in which he sings with the lovely Kirsten Dunst called “Summer Day.” I believe there’s also a song that he sings with Zooey Deschanel on the album. But my favorites from both albums are probably Easy Girl, It’s Not You It’s Me, West Coast, Back to You, and Nighttiming. But all of it is amazing! So check it out because I’m in love. I try to tell as many people as I can about Jason Schwartman and how freaking cool he is.
And how can you not fall in love with that face?
